Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to provide guidance on the payment of pensions for orphans.

Policy

General

  1. The payment of a bonus equal to additional pension for one year at the rate being paid at time of death shall be paid for the benefit of the child or children to such person as the Minister may direct.
  2. All such bonuses are recoverable when and if a monthly pension is put into payment.
  3. In cases where the widow has remarried, and also in cases where following remarriage, the stepfather adopts the child or children of the remarried widow, it is recommended that the pension of such child or children shall be continued at orphan rates.
  4. Pension should be paid for children at orphan rates whether the mother is dead, alive, separated, divorced or remarried.
