The CANADA REMEMBERS CHORUS is made up of Veterans Affairs staff in Prince Edward Island who love to sing. The Chorus was inaugurated in late Spring 1994. In the two years since its first performance, the original repertoire has grown and the versatility of Chorus members has increased.
The Chorus took its name and its raison d'être from the CANADA REMEMBERS Program. This special commemorative program (1994-95) was dedicated to fostering knowledge, understanding and recognition of this country's efforts as well as the sacrifices of Canadians of all ages on the homefront and battlefront during that war. In keeping with that spirit, these volunteer Chorus members drew selections from the rich musical heritage of that time to the delight of many, varied audiences.
The Chorus continues to perform at special events on the Veterans Affairs' calendar. However, its main focus is to reach the community of seniors and veterans on Prince Edward Island. Visits to seniors' homes, nursing homes and events of a commemorative nature have become the norm.
In addition to choral presentations of English and French Second World War era songs, solo and duet renditions punctuate their shows. The CANADA REMEMBERS CHORUS has recently produced a recording from that era.
You are invited to experience a selection of evocative musical memories as performed by the Chorus. This recording for Internet shows the Chorus' expanding repertoire as they perform uniquely First World War pieces. At present, the Chorus has thirty members.
