Network of Operational Stress Injury Clinics

A full range of clinical assessment and treatment services for Veteran and military mental health is available across the country. In the 10 operational stress injury clinics of the Veterans Affairs Canada network.

Each clinic has a team of professionals in mental health who specialize in the treatment of operational stress injuries. Working closely with one another and with each client, staff provide resources and options to address difficulties and improve the quality of life for the client and his or her family.

List of Clinics

The National Centre for Operational Stress Injuries is responsible for the development and coordination of the network of operational stress injury (OSI) clinics, which from east to west are:

• Ste. Anne OSI Clinic in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec
• Residential Treatment Clinic for Operational Stress Injuries, Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec

Services at the OSI clinics

While continuing to live in their community, clients attend appointments at the OSI clinic (except for the Residential Treatment Clinic at Ste. Anne’s Hospital, which is an inpatient facility). They are offered a clinical assessment and a variety of treatment options including individual therapies, group sessions, psycho-education sessions and other resources.

The clinic teams are made up of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, mental health nurses, and other specialized clinicians who understand the experience and needs of Veterans. Loved ones can be involved in the treatment, and eligible family members can also receive services.

Treatment approaches in OSI clinics are based on best practices and are tailored to meet each client’s needs. The team works closely with other health care or community organizations to ensure appropriate follow-up as needed.

A referral to other centres may be part of the treatment process depending on the needs of the client. When there are difficulties with addiction or substance abuse, these centres provide specialized treatment.

Other Care Options

Help is always just a call away.

At Ste. Anne’s Hospital, there is the Inpatient Stabilization Program for Operational Stress Injuries, which is offered through the Residential Treatment Clinic.

Services similar to those offered at OSI clinics are provided through seven Operational Trauma and Stress Support Centres (Opens in a new window) operated by National Defence across Canada.
