Last Post Ceremony at The Menin Gate

November 8, 2017

The Government of Canada delegation started its first full day in Belgium with a First World War battlefield tour. The battlefield tour helps to provide historical context to the role Canadian soldiers played in the Battle of Passchendaele. The delegation—made up of Veterans, youth, and representatives of regimental and Indigenous organizations—moved into Ieper for the nightly Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate.

The ceremony, which honours the fallen from the First World War, has been held every night since 1928, except for a four year period during the Second World War.
