Son of Morley Riley and Ethel May (nee Root) Wiley of Windsor, Ontario. Brother of Marjorie Rhea.

Flight Lieutenant Wiley was taken as Prisoner of War in March 1943 after escaping from his Kittyhawk aircraft which crashed over Tunisia. He was one of six Canadian airmen shot after being recaptured during an escape from Stalag Luft 3.

Flight Lieutenant George William Wiley has been honoured by having Wiley Creek named after him. The location of Wiley Creek is in Yukon (105F04- 61° 01’ 57”- 133° 46’ 53”).

Poznan (or Posen), which is the capital of the Province of the same name, is a cathedral city on the River Wanta. The POZNAN OLD GARRISON CEMETERY is on the northern side of the town.
