Son of Chesley Weldon and Greta Evangeline Steeves (1980 National Memorial (Silver) Cross Mother), of Elgin, Albert Co., New Brunswick.

His brother, Russell Steeves served with the Carleton and York Regiment and he died on October 14, 1945.

  • Photo of John Chesley Steeves – Sgt. John Chesley Steeves enlisted in R.C.A.F. at Moncton, NB, in June 1940.  He trained in Regina, Montreal and Ontario. Went overseas on Feb.17, 1941, trained in Scotland, and was stationed at Kinloss as Wireless Air Gunner. He lost his life in a crash over Scotland after enemy engagement July 7, 1941.
