Location:

Bergen is on the coast 6 kilometres north-west of Alkmaar and 43 kilometres north-north-west of Amsterdam, lying 3 kilometres west of the main Alkmaar-Den Helder road. The BERGEN GENERAL CEMETERY is on the north-eastern outskirts of Bergen, in the road known as Kerkedijk. The British plots are in the south-eastern part of the cemetery.

Wellington HE737 was airborne 0037 27Apr 43 from East Moor on a mission to Duisburg. Homebound, it was shot down from 16,000 feet by a Me110 and crashed near Bergen (Noord Holland). F/L Awad was the only member of the RCAF on board the aircraft. The three crew members killed are buried in the town's General Cemetery: Sgt K.E.Rabbitt, RAF; F/O R.H.Larkins; F/L C.M.S.Awad RCAF.  One member of the RCAF, F/O S.M.N. Pozer, was taken PoW.  He was interned in Camp L3, PoW No.1334.   Others were 
S/L J.C.Cairns DFC MiD who was interned in Camp L3. PoW No.1321. Stood a Dulag Luft Trial.  F/S R.T.Lang PoW also stood a Dulag Luft Trial before internment in Camps L1/L6/L4, PoW No.1187.  (The Dulag Luft was the Luftwaffe interrogation centre.)
