Location:

Amersfoort is a town lying 50 kilometres south-east of Amsterdam, and 22 kilometres north-east of Utrecht. The Amersfoort (Oud Leusden) General Cemetery is about 2.5 kilometres from the railway station, in an area known as Oud Leusden. The graves are in a special plot, well sited among trees.

  • Inscription– William Griffin was a student at Appleby College.   His name is inscribed on a tablet on the Memorial School building, shown above.   The building was built as a memorial to those members of the Appleby Community killed in the Second World War.   Every Remembrance Day the school Cadet Corps parades at a service in the Chapel, built as a memorial to those members of the Appleby Community killed in the First World War, and the names on the Honour Rolls from both World Wars are read out.
