Son of Michael McGrory and Margaret Anderson of Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland. He enlisted on 23 March 1893, Scotland, with the 21st Foot (Royal Scots Fsiliers), regimental number 2935. Husband of Eliza Liddle Wilkie of Dunfermline, Fire, Scotland.

Captain Ingvart Hagen's ship torpedoed and sunk by U-108 on 10 June 1941, 7 h 23 am, 430 miles (796 km) east of St. John's, Newfoundland, position 51°48'N/20°48'W. The 23 crew members lost their lives.
