For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He worked with untiring perseverance in evacuating the wounded from the field of action, under heavy fire, until he was seriously wounded himself. It was largely due to his efforts and self-sacrifice that the casualties were so successfully and rapidly evacuated from the area.

Son of Donald McKechnie and Barbara Munn, of Walkerton, Bruce, Ontario. He was the doctor of the 179th Battalion, from his enrolment until the unit’s arrival in England in October 1916. He served at the front, from March 1917 until he died, with the 6th Canadian Field Ambulance.
