Baptized Jean-Philippe Aubut. Son of Guillaume Aubut and Marie Blais, of St-Godefroi, Gaspésie, Québec. He stated being born on 27 May 1890 when he enlisted. He was taken on strength of the 22nd Battalion when he arrived in France but he never joined that unit. He was instead transferred to the 87th Battalion a week later. He was officially listed as being accidentally killed, but in fact, he was shot by a sentry while he and three other soldiers tried to climb on board a train wagon.

Location:

The town of Courcelles is located north-east of Charleroi on the N584. From the E42 motorway turn off at junction 17 direction Courcelles and follow this road to a T junction on the edge of town, at this junction turn right into Rue De Binche and follow along to the second crossroads. At this junction turn left into Rue De Trazegnies and then first right into Rue Du Cimetiere. The COURCELLES COMMUNAL CEMETERY is along here. The graves are located to the left of the entrance.
