Baptized Joseph-Guillaume Lapointe and nicknamed "Willie". Son of Adolphe Lapointe and Emma Gascon, of Montréal and St-Jérôme, Québec. He had declared to be born on March 9th, 1891 when he enlisted.

Willie was in the machine gun section of the battalion and on the fateful day he was tending his horse in the unit's corral near Vimy. He was then kicked in the stomach by another horse and died of his wounds during his evacuation to the 6th Field Ambulance which was stationed at Aux-Rietz.

Location:

Neuville-St Vaast is a village 6.5 kilometres north of Arras, a little east of the road from Bethune to Arras. LA TARGETTE BRITISH CEMETERY lies to the south-west of the village on the north-west side of the road to the village of Maroeuil.
