  • Photo of Robert Howlett– According to his tombstone, Robert Grant Howlett died of wounds sustained in the Battle of Normandy in World War II. According to his younger sister Miriam, "Bob" died of shrapnel wounds to the brain in a hospital in Montreal just before Christmas 1944. Upon receiving the terrible news, the family took down their Christmas tree. Then a few days later, presents from him, which had been purchased by a volunteer, arrived in the mail. One of his last acts was to tell his family how much he loved them. It was a very sad Christmas. We have not forgotten our "Uncle Bob" and wish to preserve his memory for future generations.
