Location:

The United Nations Cemetery is located in Tanggok, a suburb of Busan. The land for the cemetery was granted to the United Nations by the Republic of Korea as a tribute to all those who had laid down their lives in combatting aggression and in upholding peace and freedom. There are 2,267 servicemen buried in the United Nations Memorial Cemetery. Of these 1,538 were Commonwealth soldiers, including 376 Canadians.

  • Photo of Ralph Elvin Turnbull– My Uncle Ralph, often known as Chink, was my mother's twin brother. He was a World War 2 vet like most of his brothers, and was injured during that war. He volunteered to go to Korea when that conflict started, and was killed by an accidental discharge. The family was notified of his death on 31 Dec 1953, making New Years Eve a solemn occasion with our family (The date change was because it crossed the International Date Line)
