Son of Jean Garrod and step-son of Sarephin Chiasson of Kingston, Ontario. Husband of Marianne Lorainne (nee Little) Knight and father of Patricia Anne, Suzanne Marie, Edward John Joseph, Catherine Lorainne and Christine Elizabeth. There was a Commemorative gathering in front of the Memorial Cairn at Wegner Point on 8 May 2008 to mark the 40th anniversary of the deaths of the seven fallen paratroopers who drowned in 1968 during a para drop exercise at CFB Petawawa.
