Lieutenant Turner leaves behind a sister in Edmonton, Alberta. He was a former teacher and postal worker. He was an avid bike racer and belonged to an Edmonton group of road-racing cyclists. At his visitation, colleagues that served with him in the 11th Field Regiment Reserve Unit in Guelph, said "he was just a good human being and a great friend. He always had time for the junior rank members". His funeral was held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch in Erin, Ontario.
