Plaque – This was the laser engraved granite plaque that we designed to mark the unfortunate passing of Pte Wiebe. It was originally displayed at the Kandahar Cenotaph from the date of his passing - and was repatriated to Canada in 2014. Today, it can be seen at the Afghanistan War Memorial located at National Defence Headquarters in Kanata, On. Rod A. McLeod, Designer

Photo of Joel Wiebe – Private Joel Vincent Wiebe, of Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (3 PPCLI) from CFB Edmonton. Private Wiebe was one of three Canadian soldiers killed when the vehicle they were traveling in struck an improvised explosive device on the main road, approximately 6 km west of Forward Operating Base Sperwan-Gar. The incident occurred at approximately 7:49 am on June 20, 2007 while the soldiers were conducting resupply operations between checkpoints. The Charlie Company, 3 PPCLI members are part of the 2nd Battalion Royal Canadian Regiment (2 RCR) Battle Group of the Joint Task Force Afghanistan (JTF-Afg). Ramp Ceremony – In the early hours of June 20, 2007, we received the terrible news Joel and two other soldiers had been killed by an IED. The following day, on what should have been Joel's 23rd Birthday, the RAMP Ceremony was held. June 21, 2007 at Kandahar Airfield (KAF).
