Access by car Highway 401 and exit at Sydenham Road South. Turn left onto Princess Street (Highway 2), then turn left at the next stop light. The cemetery is on the first left on Counter Street across from the J. Reid Funeral Home.

  • Plaque– This was the laser engraved granite plaque that we designed to mark the unfortunate passing of Capt Dawe.

It was originally displayed at the Kandahar Cenotaph from the date of his passing - and was repatriated to Canada in 2014.  

Today, it can be seen at the Afghanistan War Memorial located at National Defence Headquarters in Kanata, On.

  • Photo of Matthew Jonathan Dawe– ‘Where have all the flowers gone’ artwork by Bruce Sherman (2010) was gifted to 22621 Tara Dawe in memory of 22596 Capt Matt Dawe (RMC 2000) by the artist, a family friend of S150 LCol (Ret’d) Peter Dawe. Captain Matt Dawe, 27 years old, was killed along with five other Canadian soldiers and an interpreter by a roadside bomb on Wednesday, July 5th, 2007. He has left behind his parents Lieutenant-Colonel and Mrs. Peter Dawe, his wife Tara and their son to grieve. A copy of the Commemorative painting hangs in the practice room(s) in Yeo hall, Royal Military College of Canada.
  • Photo of Matthew Dawe– Captain Matthew Johnathan Dawe, 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry was killed on 4 July, 2007 along with 5 other CF members and one Afghan interpreter, when the vehicle they were traveling in struck an improvised explosive device, approximately 20km south-west of Kandahar City. 3 PPCLI is based out of Edmonton, Alberta.   • Grave Marker– Captain Matthew Dawe was born into a military family – his dad served 33 years in the army. He had three older brothers – all of whom joined the Canadian Forces prior to Matthew. His Royal Military College of Canada number is 22596. He was both Cadet Wing Senior and captain of the varsity volleyball team in his final year at RMC. 

Prior to enrolling at RMC – he was a private in the Princess of Wales Own Regiment. On graduation weekend – he was married. Following RMC, he became a trained Infantry Officer. He was posted to the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, based in Edmonton. While in Edmonton his son was born.

He trained both within Canada and outside the country to qualify as a Platoon Commander. He died while serving in Afghanistan during Operation Luger, an engagement he planned and named after his son Lucas.
