S/Cst. Thomas was raised on the Peguis Indian Reservation in Manitoba and served as a band constable prior to joining the RCMP. At 1:00 am on the day of his death, he noticed a vehicle stopped at a local gas station. He got out of the police vehicle and spoke to the driver to see if he needed help. As S/Cst. Thomas started to walk towards the police vehicle, the driver got out of his car and shot S/Cst. Thomas in the back. He is buried in the graveyard beside the United Church on the Peguis Reserve.

Commemorated on Page 180 of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Honour Roll Book.
