Cst. Onofrey was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Prior to joining the Force, Cst. Onofrey was a printer. At the time of his death, he had a daughter and his wife Paula, was pregnant with their second child. Cst. Onofrey is buried at the Assumption Cemetery in Winnipeg.

Commemorated on Page 155 of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Honour Roll Book.
