Cpl. Giesbrecht was a former heavy-weight Golden Gloves Boxing Champion. He was promoted to corporal in 1962. He drowned when his police car went out of control and plunged into the water at the Coffer Dam while on patrol at Hybord, Manitoba. He was married to Elaine and they had a son. Cpl. Giesbrecht is buried at Garry Memorial Park in Fort Garry, Manitoba.

Commemorated on Page 126 of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Honour Roll Book.
