Contable Russell was originally from Scotland and was a law clerk for the Commercial Bank of Scotland. He drowned in an inland lake near Cape Fullerton, Hudson Bay. He is buried on Grub Island, Northwest Territories.

Commemorated on Page 28 of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Honour Roll Book.
