September 28, 1899

Special Constable Sam drowned when fording Kaskawulsh River, Yukon Territory, while on patrol from the Yukon's Alsec River. His body was recovered on August 10th. He was married and had children. At Depot there is a walkway that leads to the main flag pole on base named “Stick Sam Walk” in his honour.

Commemorated on Page 26 of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Honour Roll Book.
