Constable Kern was from England and worked as a bank clerk. He drowned on patrol when fording Short Creek near Estevan, Northwest Territories. His body was found May 4th. Constable Kern is buried in Estevan, Saskatchewan.

Commemorated on Page 20 of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Honour Roll Book.
