Constable Reading was from England and excelled at cricket and football. He was a surveyor during the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway and then farmed prior to joining the NWMP. Constable Reading died from injuries when a horse being exercised fell on him. He is buried in Calgary, Alberta.

Commemorated on Page 17 of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Honour Roll Book.
