In 1921 a Cenotaph was built of granite from Ymir, a memorial to those who gave their lives in the Great War. The site for the Cenotaph was the intersection of Broadway Street and Slocan Avenue (now renamed 4th Avenue). It was dedicated in 1922 by Rev. F. Ramsey of St. Mark’s Church, attended by President W. Waterfield of G.W.V.A. In 1963, the Cenotaph was moved to an area overlooking the beautiful Arrow Lakes, where it was fenced and a lawn planted. It is a great asset to the community.
Now located in the Nakusp Recreation Park, at the corner of Broadway and 8th. Memorial also includes dates for World War II and names of the dead.
