Since 2006, Camp Mirage Memorial stood at Camp Mirage to commemorate Canadians who gave their lives in Afghanistan. The memorial was repatriated home following the closure of Camp Mirage, the main military base in Southeast Asia (United Arab Emirates) that supplied and supported Canada’s mission in Afghanistan. On July 6, 2011 the memorial was officially passed to the Commander of 8 Wing and CFB Trenton, Colonel Cochrane, by the last Commanding Officer and the last Chief Warrant Officer of Camp Mirage. It now rests in the Canada’s National Air Force Museum at CFB Trenton, Ontario.
The memorial is a three part granite structure bearing plaques commemorating the Canadian soldiers killed in Aghanistan. A bronze casting of the bas-relief Fallen, created by Canadian artist Silvia Pecota, adorns the monument.
