Are you having financial difficulties because of low or no income due to your Income Replacement Benefit ending? The Canadian Forces Income Support is a tax-free, monthly benefit to help low-income Veterans, survivors, and orphans.
About this program
The Canadian Forces Income Support (CFIS) is a tax-free monthly benefit. It provides low-income Veterans who no longer qualify for the Income Replacement Benefit (IRB), as well as certain survivors, with a basic level of income while they search for employment or participate in an approved Career Transition Services program. The CFIS also provides income support, as a social safety net, to other eligible recipients.
For the purposes of this program, VAC measures a Veteran’s household income (using the definition of “income” under Section 2 of the Old Age Security Act, with a few prescribed exemptions). This formula takes into consideration any taxable income the Veteran is earning, as well as certain government benefits.
Do you qualify?
You should apply for Canadian Forces Income Support if:
- your IRB ended within the last six months,
- you have a low household income,
- you are looking for work or participating in the Career Transition Services program, and
- you are a Veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces
As a survivor or orphan you continue to receive this benefit. Learn more about Canadian Forces Income Support - Survivors.
