Aboriginal Veterans Day (2018)

Transcript

Today, on Aboriginal Veterans Day, I express my gratitude to the

First Nations, Inuit and Métis women and men who have served and

are serving our country with pride and dedication. For over 200

years, Indigenous peoples in Canada have served

selflessly—defending the freedom and democracy Canadians enjoy

today.Serving with honour and distinction in all branches,

their heroism has earned them many military

decorations.Indigenous women and men have countless reasons to

be proud of their military accomplishments. And they continue to

make Canada proud. We must never forget the accomplishments and

sacrifices of Indigenous Veterans, especially as we continue

down the path toward reconciliation and healing, and a renewed

relationship between Canada and our Indigenous peoples.
