Purpose

This policy provides direction on the provision of Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) services and  benefits to eligible Canadian veterans/discharged Royal Canadian Mounted Police who reside or travel out of Canada, and to eligible veterans of certain other countries residing or travelling in Canada.

Policy

The Veterans Health Care Regulations (VHCR) authorize the provision of treatment benefits and services related to disability benefits entitled conditions for Canadian veterans, and for Rehabilitation Program clients, regardless of Canadian residency.

The VHCRs also authorize the provision of health benefits and services to veterans of countries with which VAC has reciprocal agreements (i.e., USA, Britain, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa). These governments asess the service related pensioned conditions of the veterans who served for their country and authorize their health benefits and services.
