Restoration of the Sherbrooke Fusilier Regiment Commemorative Monument.

February 24, 2011

The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Minister of State (Agriculture), announced on February 24, 2011, up to $ 14,200 in federal government support for a project in Sherbrooke, Quebec, to honour Veterans and those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The Sherbrooke Hussars Regimental Association will receive funding to restore the monument erected in 1947 by the Sherbrooke Fusilier Regiment as a tribute to members who served and who lost their lives during the Second World War. The monument consists of a Sherman tank, affectionately named “The Bomb,” which is the only Canadian tank having landed in Normandy to have survived until Victory in Europe Day.
