Ceremony in Ottawa to mark the 5th anniversary of the end of Canada’s mission in Afghanistan

March 31, 2019

On March 31, 2019, the Government of Canada held a ceremony at the National War Memorial in Ottawa to mark the 5th anniversary of the end of the Canada’s mission in Afghanistan. We recognize the ongoing sacrifices of those Canadian who returned from the mission in Afghanistan—some with invisible and visible injuries, and some who continue to serve in the Canadian Armed Forces. Over 40,000 Canadian men and women in uniform served—and 158 of them died—during our country’s 12-year mission in Afghanistan to defend peace and freedom.
