The initial partition at 38 degrees north latitude (38th parallel between North Korea and South Korea during the period 1945 to 1950. June 25, 1950: North Korean forces attack South Korea at the 38th parallel. June 28, 1950: Seoul is captured. August 4 to 5, 1950: North Korean forces encircle Pusan. September 15, 1950: The first United Nations (UN) offensive the retaking of Inchon. September 17, 1950: UN troops move toward Seoul. September 1950: The liberation of Seoul. September 30, 1950: South Korean forces cross the 38th parallel. October 7, 1950: UN troops move toward Pyongyang. October 19, 1950: The capture of Pyongyang. October 25, 1950: The first Chinese offensive. October 26, 1950: South Korean forces reach the Chinese border. November 24 to 26, 1950: The second Chinese offensive. December 1 to 5, 1950: Communist troops retake Pyongyang. Front line between North and South Korean troops on January 1st January 3 - 4, 1951: Seoul captured by the Chinese. January 15, 1951: Chinese Offensive stops south of Seoul. January 21, 1951: Second United Nations offensive towards Seoul. March 14, 1951: Liberation of Seoul. March 31, 1951: Return to the 38th parallel. April 22, 1951: Battle of Imjin River. April 24, 1951: Chinese offensive. May 16, 1951: Chinese offensive. May 22 - 30, 1951: United Nations offensive. Front line between North and South Korean troops between June and August 1951. September 8, 1951: Operation Minden. October 3, 1951: Operation Commando. October 9, 1951: Stalemate between North and South Korean troops The 38th parallel becomes a static front. October 13, 1952: South Korean troops move North one last time. June 17, 1953: Revised demarcation line between North and South (roughly where it all started, along the 38th parallel) July 27, 1953: Armistice
