Map of Europe

Map showing movement of Canadians in Northwest Europe from June 6, 1944 to May 8, 1945, with inset detailing our landings in Normandy on D-Day. Soldiers of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division and the 2nd Canadian Armoured Brigade came ashore in occupied France at Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer, Courseulles-sur-Mer and Bernières-sur-Mer. After helping achieve victory in the Battle of Normandy, the Canadians then fought to clear the enemy from the coast of the English Channel and North Sea on the left flank of the Allied advance. Our soldiers would see heavy action in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and northwestern Germany before the fighting finally came to an end.
