Government of Canada Signature Events in Halifax

This year marks the 75th anniversary of D Day and the Battle of Normandy. The Government of Canada will lead an official delegation to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where two public events are planned to commemorate the historic day and Second World War battle.

Wreath-laying Ceremony

10:30 A.M.

Halifax Memorial, Point Pleasant Park

The Government of Canada will host a traditional ceremony at the Halifax Memorial to commemorate the sacrifices of those who fought and died during the Second World War. To this day, when Her Majesty’s Canadian Ships pass the Halifax Memorial between Colours (0800 hours) and sunset, they will “pipe the still” to honour the fallen.

The Government of Canada is pleased to invite the official delegation and the public to participate in this ceremony as part of the 75th anniversary commemorations for D Day and the Battle of Normandy.

Halifax Citadel National Historic Site

The Government of Canada will host a signature event at the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site. This meaningful location represents the end of the train journey across Canada and the departure point for many of our soldiers heading to war.

The Government of Canada invites the official delegation and the public to take part in this ceremony as part of the 75th anniversary commemorations for D Day and the Battle of Normandy.
