70th Anniversary of the Italian Campaign

"Having been born in Italy in the middle of the Second World War, some of my earliest childhood memories are of the post-war occupation and the kind soldiers who would hand out chewing gum and share their food with us. These memories have afforded me a deep appreciation for what generations of Canadian men and women in uniform have done and continue to do."

Minister Julian Fantino

The Government of Canada will mark the 70th anniversary of the Italian Campaign with commemorative events taking place in Italy between November 24-28, 2014. Ceremonies honouring the almost 6,000 Canadians who sacrificed their lives to liberate Italy will take place at Cassino War Cemetery, the Moro River Canadian War Cemetery, and the Coriano Ridge War Cemetery.

Travel Assistance Announced

The Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs, recently announced that the Government of Canada will provide $2,000 in travel assistance per eligible Veteran wanting to attend commemorative events marking the 70th anniversary of the Italian Campaign in Italy.
