COVID-19: Commemorative Services, Programs and Activities

Like all of Canada and the rest of the world, Veterans Affairs Canada will be impacted over the coming weeks and months by COVID-19. This includes commemorative services and activities.

Your patience is appreciated. As more information becomes available, we will update this page.

If you are a Veteran looking for information on services and benefits, visit our Information for Veterans page.

In-Canada Events

Commemorative events hosted by VAC in Canada are postponed until further notice. Consult our Calendar of Events for information on specific events. The status of the events may not always be fully up to date, so please contact the event organizers for more information. Some activities are being moved online so you can participate from home.

You should follow all directions given by your local health authorities regarding public gatherings, regardless of an event’s status.

Overseas Events

A Government of Canada delegation was scheduled to travel overseas to participate in ceremonies commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands from 1-10 May 2020.

In line with advice about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) from various health and safety authorities, the Government of Canada has decided to postpone this trip and the commemorative ceremonies which were planned around it for the time being as these events would have resulted in the gathering of large groups. When the situation with COVID-19 is resolved and the associated risks greatly diminished, Veterans Affairs Canada will work with partners in the Netherlands and in Canada to organize commemorative activities, including a delegation with Second World War Veterans visiting the Netherlands.

For more information on our plans to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands and V-E Day, please visit our events page.
