Born 30 September 1906, Motherwell, Parish of Dalziel, County of Lanark, Scotland. Son of Lt. Col. Norman Gentles (1873-1927), veteran of the First World War, 28th Battalion, Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force and Margaret Helen Wallace (1878-1944) of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. The family immigrated from Scotland in 1913. Norman was a lawyer and long time sheriff of Moose Jaw. Husband of Marjory Mary Carr, father of Norman Robert (1926-1973). The family resided in Regina, Saskatchewan at the time of enlistment. He was also the grandfather of Thomas Gentles. He was the brother of Margaret Cecile Werneke (1904-1997), Norman Wallace (1908-) and Major Robert Henry Dick (1912-1976) formerly 8th Canadian RECCE, 14th Canadian Hussars.

Location:

CESENA WAR CEMETERY lies in the Commune of Cesena, in the Province of Forli, and is situated one kilometre north-east of Cesena railway station on the provincial road to Cervia (Route No.71 bis). If exiting at Cesena from the highway, the sign will be seen for the Cemetery. From the other direction in Cesena, follow the sign to Rimini and then Cervia and the Cemetery will be found on the right. The CESENA WAR CEMETERY is permanently open and may be visited outside the working hours of the local gardening staff, but will be unmanned.
