Son of Alfred John Airriess and Sarah Elizabeth Tanner, of Togo, Saskatchewan.

He served with the 2nd Somerset Light Infantry – NPAM – service number L-531824, from 21 January 1941 to 7 February 1941 in Togo, Saskatchewan, then with the Winnipeg Grenadiers in Hong Kong with Force C and in Japan as prisoner of war. He had 1,539 days of service, including 1,419 overseas.

To commemorate his sacrifice, the government of Saskatchewan named Airriess Lake in his honor.

Location:

YOKOHAMA WAR CEMETERY is 9 kilometres west of the city on Yuenchi-Dori, Hodogaya Ward, which branches left off the old Tokkaido highway. The nearest railway station is Hodogaya, 5 kilometres to the north on the JNR line but the cemetery is easily reached by bus from Yokohama station.
