Location:

Aabenra is in Jutland, on the main road from Germany into Denmark, about 24 kilometres north of the frontier. It is about 105 kilometres from the port of Esbjerg. AABENRAA CEMETERY is on the western side of the town. The 1939-45 Plot is on the left-hand side of the main path towards the rear of the cemetery.

Lancaster I HK537 of 463 (RAAF) Sqn took off at 00.35 from its home base at Waddington on a mission to Berlin.  

En route to Berlin HK537 collided with Lancaster III JA967 of 83 (RAF) Sqn over Augustenborg Fjord.  The major part of HK537 crashed in the fields of Pommersgaard farm near Mjels. 

Air Gnr. F/Sgt Harold Suthers RCAF was found dead near Broballe among the wreckage of JA967 

All onboard died and rest in Aabenraa cemetery, Jutland, Denmark.
