Location:

Gorssel is a small town 8 kilometres north of Zutphen, on the main road to Deventer. The cemetery is in the southern part of the town on the western side of the road to Zutphen, in Gelderland. The British plot is close to the entrance on the left of the main path. A number of Canadian soldiers who lost their lives in the fighting which liberated Gorssel in April 1945 were buried in the British plot at the time. They have since been moved to the Canadian War Cemetery at Holten.

  • Photo of Hugh Morrow– Morrow, Hugh Francis - Flying Officer. Born 18th June, 1921, at Vancouver.  Educated at Kitsilano High School, Vancouver. Entered the service of the Bank 22nd September, 1939. Served at Kingsway & Knight Road (Vancouver) and other branches in British Columbia. Enlisted 19th August, 1941, from New Westminster in R.C.A.F. Sergeant in July, 1942; Pilot Officer in August, 1943; Flying Officer in February, 1944. Trained at Edmonton, Alta., Regina, Sask., Boundary Bay, B.C., Claresholm, Alta., and Rivers, Man. Overseas in October, 1943. Served on Halifax bombers. Killed in action 17th June, 1944. Buried in Municipal Cemetery, Gorssel, near Zutphen, Holland. From a memorial booklet prepared by the Canadian Bank of Commerce.
