Photo of William Bartley – This photo is part of a collection of 300 war time images of WW1 which was given to me by Thomas Byers of the Black Watch Royal Highlanders 9th Bn. back in 1976. Tommy lived until the age of 94. Tommy had put this photo album together back during WW1. He had collected and shot some of the images himself. He was a resident in our families rest home in Mission BC. Tommy was a friend of Sergeant William Bartley during WW1. I have other photos that I have found on the internet of William Bartleys grave stone in France where he and his father are buried together. I found out that William Bartley attended The Colleraine School in Belfast Ireland before the War broke out. William Bartleys father was a Presbyterian Minister and was on his way to seeing his seriously wounded son and he was one of the victims of the R.M.S. Leinster which was torpedoed by the UB-123 German submarine where 501 people had lost their lives on October 10th 1918. Most of the images in my photo album have names and dates attached to them and a few photos have news paper clippings too. William Bartley worked as a bank clerk as an ocupation before the war. This is on his Attestation Papers which are also in the internet.
