Citation(s):

Meritorious Service Medal and Distinguished Conduct Medal, London Gazette # 31128, dated 14 January 1919, "During the attack on Le Quesnoy on 10th August 1918, he acted with great judgment, coolness and courage. When his company commander was wounded he carried him under cover and had his wounds dressed. He then took charge of and reorganised part of the company and carried on with the advance. When the advance was held up by enemy machine gun fire, he took a party round and rushed the post, killing the garrison and capturing the ground. His work throughout greatly contributed to the success of the operation."

Location:

QUIÉVRAIN COMMUNAL CEMETERY is located 20 km west of Mons on a road leading from the N51 which connects Mons to Quiévrain and on to Valenciennes. The N51 Rue Grande passes directly through the village of Quiévrain and forms a junction with the Rue des Wagnons in the centre of the village. The Rue des Wagnons leads for 500 metres (towards the village of Baisieux) and to the left hand turning onto the Rue du Chateau d'Eau. The cemetery is located 400 metres along this road and at the junction with the Rue du Cheval Blanc. Visitors should note that this site is restricted to normal cemetery opening hours.
