Location:

BEDFORD HOUSE CEMETERY ENCLOSURE NO.4 is located 2.5 Km south of Ieper town centre. The cemetery lies on the Rijselseweg (N365), the road connecting Ieper to Armentieres. From Ieper town centre the Rijselsestraat runs from the market square, through the Lille Gate (Rijselpoort) and directly over the crossroads with the Ieper ring road. The road name then changes to the Rijselseweg. The cemetery itself is located 2 Km after this crossroads on the left hand side of the Rijselseweg.

  • Letter– This is the 1st page of Albert's letter home to his brother James. My Grandmother Vi Thorne has had it for over 70 years. She is 86 years old.
  • Letter– Page 2 of Albert McGee's last letter home. It was sent while he was in Kent England waiting for his named to be called to go to the front.
  • Letter– Page 3 of Albert's last letter home. On this page he quotes the lyrics to the song "Pack all your troubles in your old kit bag" My Great Grandfather would not have heard it yet.
  • Letter– Page 4 of Alberts last letter home. The original letter we are planning to donate to the Canadian War Museum. Where hopefully it will be preserved for all who visit to see and read. Lest We Forget.
  • Grave Marker– Albert McGee's grave marker at Bedford House Cemetery, in Belgium.

  • Newspaper clipping– Albert was my Great Uncle, my Grandfather's (John R McGee aka Jack) brother. This has been cherished by me for many years and it was found in the family Bible.
  • Medal– This is Uncle Albert's medal, there two more  but I do not know who has them.
