Baptized Joseph-Adélard Burel. Son of Eustache Burel and Marie Jeannotte, of Beloeil, Verchères, Québec. The last name “Burel” evolved to “Burelle” with time. Adélard stated being born on 15 April when he enlisted.

Severely wounded by a piece of shrapnel to his right side on 8 November 1917 at the Battle of Passchendaele in Belgium, he was evacuated to Casualty clearing station n° 3 in Grévillers, France. After two weeks, he was transferred to Hospital General n° 26 in Étaples, in the Pas-de-Calais, where he stayed over one month, before he died of his wounds.
