On 10 March 1943, the Coulmore was sailing in convoy when it was torpedoed at 1.04 am south of Reykjavik, Iceland, position 58°48'N/22°22'W. The attack cost the lives of 25 crew members. Two survivors were rescued by the HMCS Dauphin (K157) and five by the USCGC Bibb (WPG-31). Severely damaged, the Coulmore was towed to the Clyde, England, where she was repaired and returned to service in July.
