George was born in Hull England on June 1st 1875 to John Griffin and Betsy Jane Thompson he was a Painter and Decorator and had two sisters and two brothers.  A sister and brother both died in 1882. 

George married Lavinia Gale (born 1876 in Hull, England) in 1900 at St Marks Church Kingston upon Hull, England.  They had two daughters in England Mabel born 1902 and Edith Maud born c1906 both in Hull England.  They went to live at 1000 Beach Avenue c1908.  Then they had Olive born 1910 and Lavinia born 1912
