Cst. Atkins served in British Columbia and New Brunswick and had a passion for Highway Patrol duties. He died as a result of a police car collision on Highway 7, near Finnegans Hill, Queens County, New Brunswick.

Cst. Atkins was a devoted family man. He was married to Jill, and they had two daughters.

Commemorated on Page 223 of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Honour Roll Book.
