2/Cst. Melnychuk was posted to Divisional Headquarters in Toronto. He accidentally drowned while on patrol in Lake Simcoe, near Georgina Island, Ontario. 2/Cst. Melnychuk’s body was found 19 days after the accident. He is buried in the cemetery at Prince George, British Columbia.

Commemorated on Page 93 of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Honour Roll Book.
