Cst. Melsom was born in Ontario. He was responding to a call for assistance when he died in a traffic accident at Port Alberni, British Columbia. Cst. Melsom is buried in the Anglican Cemetery of his hometown of Woodstock, Ontario.

Commemorated on Page 89 of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Honour Roll Book.
